Description
High on the skyline looking down on the Tioga Road (US 120) are the three Warren Towers. The most conspicuous North Warren Tower was climbed as early as 1930 (presumably from behind), but the record in the register has become illegible. Chuck Calef and Darien Raistrick recently added "Purist or Luddite" (5.8 PG13) to the Middle Warren Tower. Ed Hartouni reports the South Warren Tower does have a cairn on the summit. I would guess there are also some new routes to do on it if you don't mind a long approach march.
Getting There
Hike up toward the Warren Towers from the pullout on US 120 below the 'Blue Slide' where Caltrans often parks a bulldozer. This long trudge should take about 2.5 hours. Getting down from the summit of the North Tower involves 2 raps off the back to a touchdown on the talus at the top of the approach gully. Descend back the way you walked up.
