Description
Sloppers! Love em, especially with the slick texture Carrot Creek provides. Boulderers will be in heaven. There are many walls and sectors here, with Ravens Nest and Carrot Cave being the premier. Everything from 5.7 to 5.14b. Carrot is a popular summer destination, if it's hot, be sure to take a ceremonial dip in the creek before walking out!
Carrot Creek is in Banff National Park, a park pass is required. The approach and climbing is in a wildlife corridor, tread lightly and read the sign in the parking cage. The approach, especially the first few hundred meters, is notorious for having grizzly's. Carry bear spray and if you see a bear strongly consider bailing to a different crag. Dogs and bikes are not allowed in the wildlife corridor.
Getting There
Drive on the Trans-Canada towards Banff (West) from Canmore. About 1.5km after the park gate (51.145598392733156, -115.42147833049506) take a right onto a road that leads to parking at the end (51.145598392733156, -115.42147833049506).
Exit the wildlife cage through the gate and make sure you close it once you're through. Follow the well-worn trail until it dives down into the wash after ~1.8km (51.15679054403676, -115.40302556204075). Head upstream until you start seeing bolts - follow the trail as best you can, you'll have to cross the creek several times on deadfall bridges.
The trail deposits you at the bottom of Entrance Wall. Expect about an hour on approach, almost entirely flat and easy! The furthest sector is Carrot Cave, this is about 10 minutes upstream from Entrance Wall.
