Description

This is a group of boulders with good climbs and potential for alot of development. Rock quality is great and well worth the approach. The climbing here varies from slab to overhangs to highballs. Mostly good landings but a spotter is comforting for some of these.

Getting There

From the main parking lot head up the paved road. When you get to the old parking lot hike up the ridge trail for about 40 minutes. Directly off the trail you will see a large pyramid shaped boulder with two flat sides. There is a no camping sign also near the boulder. This is the warm up slab. The remaining Bouldering is down the hill to the right of the trail.

The Bear Cave area is pretty hard to miss. It is about 2 and 1/4 to 2 1/2 miles up the Ridge Trail. The "No Camping" sign referenced in the approach description is smack in the middle of the trail. The switchbacks go all around the Warm Up Slab. See map for better indication of exactly where it is.

I'm heading out to the Old Rag Loop trail for the first time this weekend and trying to map all the boulder areas out. Can anyone give more specific detail for the Bear Cave area than "about 40 minutes" up the Ridge Trail from the parking lot? Which side of the trail, how far? I'm hopeful it will be impossible to miss. Sep 29, 2017
