Description
For those who aren't inclined to go to Long Dong, who like short approaches, and don't mind their routes short and slabby...
Dapaoyan (大砲岩), translated as "Big Cannon Cliff", is a high-ball boulder and/or top-rope area in Yangmingshan National Park, just above Beitou. Don't mind the "forbidden to climb" signs... all bark and no bite, kinda like the dog kennels across the road. A 45-minute walk from the MRT, or a short bus ride (runs every 30 min) with some walking, or a very short walk up the hill if you have your own transportation (parking is sparse).
Rehai (熱海) is a slightly larger, taller cliff also in the Beitou area, but outside the national park. There are around 20 bolted routes here, and some can be setup for top-roping from above. Great views of the surrounding forest and outskirts of the city. Can be walked from the MRT in 30 minutes, or in 5 minutes from the trail entrance if you have your own transportation.
Cuishan (翠山) is a fun hike, but climbing-wise is a monumental disappointment.
