Description
The Merrymen is a five summit tower that masts over upper Onion Creek. The climbing reminded me of a longer, harder, funner version of Carson's Tower in the Fishers. Don't expect clean splitter Wingate sandstone climbing on this formation. If you thought Ancient Art was dirty, then don't climb this tower. The rock quality is on par with some of the muddier Fishers.
Getting There
Following the main canyon of Onion creek, you will reach a wet short 25-foot climb (5.0-5.4). Usually, a hand-line is in place. Once past this climb, the Merrymen is obvious as it towers over the canyon.
Scramble north into a side drainage, west of the tower, and work your way to the base.
