Description
**12,462 ft (3,798m)**
This peak lies on the main crest north of the sublime Pioneer Basin, at it's head, surprisingly the main crest here runs east to west, with Crocker's West Ridge even running southwards a little.
The peak has a couloir on its north face (Northwest Chute) which has 60 degree snow. The West Ridge, coming up a snow bowl from the north is a fine scramble in early season.
Getting There
The peak itself can be accessed from two directions, one north and one south. The southern approach comes out of Pioneer Basin, which is reached over Mono Pass, trailhead is Mosquito Flats, Rock Creek.
The northern approach starts at the McGee Creek trailhead, and heads south to good camp sites around Big McGee Lake. This is a long hike, and quite flat at the start, following the canyon south towards the beckoning high tree-filled bowl and peaks behind it. After a creek crossing there's a long uphill section which will get your attention until it levels off and from there you cross meadow like terrain and up benches to Big McGee Lake (2600 feet elevation gain from the trailhead).
