Description
This area is on the eastern side of the Stowe side of the Notch. It is much futher south than the well known South Wall. It's not listed in the Lewis & Wilcox guide, though it could be in Viljanen's "Local's Guide to Smuggler's Notch Ice"; I don't have a copy.
It consists of three areas of ice that I'm referring to as the Guide's Wall (because I've often seen guides using this), Middle Spruce and Upper Spruce.

Getting There
Park at the Stowe side parking area and locate a trail behind the Barnes Cabin. Cross the small bridge and head up the steps to the trail (steps can get icy). The trail will go up a bit and then cut back to the left and head north, following an obvious line and orange tape on the trees. The areas are located in succession up to the right Guide's Wall (<1/4 mile), Middle Spruce (3/4 - 1 mile) and Upper Spruce (1 1/4 to 1 1/2 miles). Near the Upper Spruce area the trail merges with the Long Trail; so technically you could also take the Long Trail North from the picnic area along the blocked-off Rt. 108 on the Stowe side to reach this area.
