Access Issue: RAIN & WET ROCK Details

Corpse Wall sandstone is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp, then do not climb.

Description

Black Flower is a steep broad wall near the crest of the Santa Monica Mountains between Calabasas and Malibu. Black Flower is a wonderful wall, located a short stroll from Schueren Road. The majority of the routes follow lines of thin edges, small pockets, and seams. Most of the routes at Black Flower are a few degrees either side of vertical. The wall is in the shade in the early morning and evening.

Getting There

Follow Las Virgenes past Malibu Creek State Park and turn left on Puma Road. Turn left on Schueren Road. Black Flower is on the north side of Schueren Road. Black Flower is between Malibu and Calabasas. There is a long pullout on the south side of the road. Black Flower is downhill from the Las Virgenes Water District water tank along the Backbone Trail approach to Corpse Wall. GPS Coordinates: 34 04' 28" N 118 39" 05" W
