Description
This is a unique area with lots of potential for alpine and alpine rock. It requires an approach that is between 2 to 6 hours depending on season and fitness. There are many climbs in the area, most are not documented.
The Snowbird hut was built and is maintained by the American Alpine club. Be familiar with hut policies and show respect. Consider joining the American Alpine Club at americanalpineclub.org/p/sales.
Getting There
From the Reed lakes parking lot, hike to the old building location (1.25 miles), before nugget boulder and snowbird slab. Follow the path left up the drainage, passing snowbird mine on the right. Keep following the bowls to the pass (5500ft) over the pass the Snowbird glacier expands below you, traveling down the glacier is safe, although there are moulins . If Snowbird hut is your destination follow the glacier along the moraine to the right. looking for the red arrow pointing to the hut. Because its there wall is off to the left, beyond the Nunatak.
