Description
Mineral Creek Canyon is a spectacular adventure in both summer or winter. It has rich history in the form of mining, climbing, and the development of a wonderful ski trail network. The canyon offers a great deal of variety in terms of ice with everything from moderate routes to difficult testpieces. There is something for everyone, and with a snow machine, the approach is nothing more that a throttle lever away. For the purest, many of the climbs can be reach in less that a hour and offer that middle of know where feeling Keystone may lack. A day in Mineral Creek Canyon is always a day well spent.
Getting There
To access the ice, park at the top of Mineral Creek Road (the road to the water tower), and ski, walk, or snow machine up the canyon's main trail. Follow this for half a mile crossing a metal bridge, and continue up into the canyon. The climbs first will appear on your right (east) with more ice revealing itself as one travels deeper into this winter wonderland. Be careful, Mineral Creek Canyon has a very high avalanche threat.
