Description

Electric Rocks is a set of west-facing, traprock (basalt) cliffs located under power transmission lines near YMCA Camp Sloper (really!) in Southington, CT.

The crag is not heavily climbed but is on a hiking trail. The longest routes are about 70 feet tall. The rock and climbers trails can be treacherous when wet.

Getting There

You can easily see the crag from the Camp Sloper parking lot. The sign says YMCA members may park there. Follow the obvious trail under the power lines. The approach takes about 20 minutes.

Info on this crag is in David Fasulo's new CT guidebook "Rock Climbing Connecticut. The routes here tend to be really mossy and slick due to little activity (at least when I climbed it). Some of the routes have been modernized (not by me). There is limited parking at the YMCA lot with a pass. You can get a pass from the Ragged Mountain Foundation website. raggedmtn.org/electric-rocks/ Sep 2, 2016

The only beta I've found on this crag comes from Ken Nichols' "Hooked on Traprock" guide. As yet I haven't climbed any of these routes but wanted to get the crag in MP so others can check it out and contribute more info. I'll continue to fill in info when I can. Jun 13, 2013
