Description

This crag is mostly sun, with some evening shade. In the past there were only a few TR anchors but more and more sport climbs are being put up.

Getting There

To get there its one mile east of the 15 on the 76. The Approach is not bad.

Bring a big brush if it has rained any time recently. Any climbs up against the hillside get covered in sand. Dec 23, 2013
Parking - just past Quarry (and above crag) in roadside turnout on north side of the 76 (aprox one mile east of 15)

Approach - visible trail starts in-between two road signs (warning of tight curve). There are several trail variations as you get higher, but it is easy to see where you want to go. The approach is easier than it looks. Some trails will take you to the top of the main crag, others to the base.

When to climb - The crag is south facing, so late afternoon or evenings year round. On a cooler winter day it is probably comfortable all day.

Rock quality is good and there might be potential for development, definitely an underrated area. Sep 23, 2016
The Google map on this page locates Cougar Crag East. The beta pic at the top of this page shows only Cougar Crag East. Cougar Crag West lies west of the quarry. Dec 27, 2016

REWARD OFFERED

Hey climbing community, recently I was at cougar crag on 11/25/18 and forgot my gear pack in the turnout where you park for this climbing area. It was an orange Patagonia Crag Pack full of trad gear. It was actually full of all of the climbing gear I own and have accumulated over the years. It got left behind because was more focused on getting into my car because I locked my keys in the car before I walked to to cliff. I guess this is just proving that I am one forgetful dude. Anyways if anyone has seen it, knows anything about it, or picked it up I would love to get it back and will gladly offer a reward for returning it to me. I am really depending on the climbing community to come through and tell their friends to spread the word. Thanks for any help you can offer, and feel free to contact me at 909-938-7980 Nov 29, 2018
