Description

No trails lead to these cliffs. Very secluded, and it appears that the last period of popular climbing here was in the early 1990s. Lots of rock fall in the surrounding area around the cliffs, some looking recent. Loose rock on climbs also. Test any blocks or flakes for the hollow/loose sound/feel before pulling or placing protection. There is a fair amount of lichen, but nothing out of the ordinary for the Lake George area.

Getting There

Exit 25 off of I-87-N
About 20 minutes off of the exit, drive by Brant Lake

Back in 2006 Randy Hibshman and I constructed a new trail to Barton high cliff. It was much easier than the historical approach and you could get to the cliff in 30 minutes. Unfortunately, when you think you are there you are only half way. On the left side of the cliff there is a huge talus field and on the right side the vegetation is so thick there is no way to tell where you are. Getting to the base of an actual route is difficult.

Knowing what I do now, I should have made the trail to the top of the cliff, not the bottom. That would have made access much easier. Feb 22, 2017

You can't see the cliff from the road. In fact, you can't see the cliff until you are minutes away from it on the approach. Just follow the directions on p.469 of Adirondack Rock. Apr 9, 2013
