Description
Perhaps the most famous of all of the crags in the El Chorro area, Makinodromo is home to some of the best 5.13's in the area as well as dozens of classic 5.12's and even a few .14's! One route in-particular, Lourdes, helped put El Chorro on the map as a sport climbing destination. The famous 8a takes an impressive line through a severely overhanging wall of tufas. Give it a go!
Getting There
There are some access issues with this area but be sure that you will find the way.
You can walk along the railway from town and through three tunnels until you get to a large opening. Look up and right and you can't miss the huge perfect limestone crags. Walking along the railway, however, is illegal and if caught you can receive heavy fines. It is said that police guard the tunnels on the weekends and holidays but I walked there on a Saturday with no problems.
Alternatively, ask locals about the notch approach. You might need a car for this one, but if the police decide to have a clamp down, it will probably be cheaper than paying a fine on the railway.
