Description
This area includes about a half dozen sectors that are located father up the main ridge that is commonly referred to as Frontalas. In reality, Frontalas is located on the lower west end of the ridge and Escalera Arabe is located on the upper east end.
it is a wonderful area that sits high up on the ridge above the trees. The crags all offer excellent views of the area and the quality of the climbing matches the views. Most of the routes are vertical in nature and can be described as moderate face climbs. You will find some hard 5.12 and maybe 5.13, but many of the routes range in grade from 5.9 to 5.12.
Most of the climbing here is south facing and gets a lot of sun. Shady areas can be found with some exploring and the crags get a good breeze, but in general this area is not suitable for hot weather.
Getting There
In the past it was possible to drive up the track to the base of the cliff, however the track has now been closed by the National Park and as a result the approach is considerably longer on foot although it is a lovely walk and not at all strenuous. There is occasional stone fall from the large areas of broken crags above the climbs and a helmet is advised. The area is named after the Mozarabic stairway built pre-1500, sections of which are still in amazing condition.
