Description
Despite having the world's most amazing trekking and mountaineering, Nepal has very little developed rock climbing. Those of us in Kathmandu get by with a little bit or climbing and bouldering at indoor areas.
None of these places are stellar, but if you are in the area, they are not a bad way to spend the afternoon.
Comments with more information are welcome. As more/better information becomes available, it will be incorporated within the original wall information. This is a work in progress.
Update on 7th October 2022: There are four "indoor" climbing gyms in Kathmandu city area, and one in Pokhara. All have rental equipment available.
1. Astrek Climbing in Thamel has about 10 sport-climbing routes (inc. 2 lead?) and a bouldering wall that's usually set as a spray wall. It's sheltered but can get wet if it rains heavily.
2. Kathmandu Sport Climbing Centre is also in Thamel area and has about 8 sport-climbing routes (inc. 4 lead?) and a bouldering wall that's usually set with routes. They also have a speed-climbing wall and maintain an active social media presence (on Instagram). It's sheltered but can get wet if it rains heavily.
3. Crimpanzee is in the Bouddha area and has sport-climbing and bouldering. It's sheltered but can get wet if it rains heavily.
4. Initiative Outdoor in Jhamsikhel's Gyan Mandala has a small bouldering gym indoors.
In Pokhara, there is the West Indoor Sport Hub which has 2 sport-climbing routes and a pretty decent bouldering wall usually set with routes.
