Description

An awsome spire on top of a ridge with good sunlight the whole day. A mix of sport and trad of single pitch or long top ropes with a range of 5.8 to 5.12.

Getting There

From the parking lot go on the sitting bear trail and take a right at the trail junction which takes you up the ridge, going through a wonderful camp site and past Devils hole, a great swimming area in the summer in the Linville river. To go to the Sitting Bear spire just follow the trail up the steep ridge and it will lead you right there.

One day back in the early '90's, Sean Cobourn and I hiked up here to tick off a few routes. We only knew how to get to it, and had absolutely no route beta. It seems like we hiked in from the Ginger Cake Acres road. We had two groupies with us, and they announced that it was impossible to climb it. I tied in, and started up. They wandered off. I don't remember if I fell, but it didn't look good. When they got back, we were sitting on top, smoking (You know what!) and having a few beers. They finally believed we were real mountain climbers.
