Description
Rosetta Stone is a low east-facing wall looking out over the McDowell Mountain Regional Area...
Great Beginning Lead Rock on mostly solid Granite.
Much less visited than other climbing areas in the
McDowell Mountains Area.
Getting There
Take Happy Valley Road east from Scottsdale or Pima Road; follow Happy Valley for about two miles, continuing past Alma School Road; turn right (east) onto Ranch Gate Road; follow Ranch Gate until it ends at 128th Street; turn right (south) onto 128th, follow to trailhead and park in signed lot. NOTE: Parking is free and there are restrooms and a shade ramada but no water. Starting at the east side of the parking area, follow the easy Marcus Landslide Trail approximately one mile to the signed turnoff for Rosetta Stone and Granite Ballroom climbing areas. Rosetta Stone crag will be clearly visible due west of the junction. Scramble up the established climber trail to the base of the crag.
