Description
M & M wall was the beginning of hard sport climbing in the Coulee in 1994, with the FA of Stemmin' Ms 5.12a and a host of others. Named after the developers Mike Massey and Matt Kerns, the crag is located on the lowest layer of basalt in the basin, characterized by vertical, blank, columnar red rock that is blank, technical and crimpy. Generally it doesn't exceed 40 feet in height, with the last 15 or so being filled with gas pockets. The routes here are unique for Vantage, as they usually require good technique and body tension to stem as well as a bit of power. Be prepared for slightly spicier bolting than on most routes.
Getting There
From the parking lot, head up to the mesa top and down through the first gully/slot canyon. Continue along to the east corner of Sunshine Wall, at which there is a trail heading downhill. Slide down this and skier's left to Fat Man Wall, where the trail switchbacks down a little farther to M & M Wall.
