Description Suggest change

The climbing here is good, but the setting is spectacular, though you may have to contend with trains. The crag itself sits just above Howe Sound. Hanging belays at high tide are not to be missed. Seals and otters frequent the cove as well. Out the traverse, best to belay the second from the top and rap back in from the tree. Two ropes may be needed otherwise, with the real possibilty of dropping them in the water.

Getting There Suggest change

About 10 km from Squamish, and 2 km. south of Murrin Park, park in the wide pullout with the mining information sign. DO NOT drop down the drainage from the pullout, as it is steep and loose, and forces an illegal walk along the train tracks. Walk along the road back north left of the road barrier for safety and clarity to gain the access trail located 0.5 km from pull off.

To access the base of both Seal Cove and the newly established Otter Cove (June 2025), skip the first beaten path left (may lead to topside Seal Cove) at 0.3 km north of parking, and continue along barrier until cairns marking a faint trail to a short section of talus with more cairns. Trend right through the talus to gain a short slab section beaten through the moss, than follow trail back left through the frrest to gain the tracks. Cross here for the base of Seal Cove base on the left, and Otter Cove on the right marked with more cairns.

It is possible to gain access topside to Seal Cove routes and rappel in if tides do not allow access from the base. Rappel with one rope on the slings on the tree. It is a stretch, but possible. It is also possible to follow the road and flagging tape up to the railroad tracks and cross these above the crag, but avoid walking along the tracks or through the tunnel, as it compromises both safety and future access for climbers. The climbs at Seal Cove on the right of the slab must be accessed by doing the traverse first.
