Access Issue: Climbing Regulations/Seasonal Raptor Closures Details

The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.

Description

Just south of Watts Towers is this large formation with just over a dozen routes scattered across it's north, west and southwest faces. Routes range from 5.8 to 5.11+ and are almost all traditionally protected.

Getting There

Park along the road where possible and walk across the desert following faint trails to the base of the rock. Approach times vary from 5-15 minutes depending upon which portion of the rock you are visiting.
