Getting weather forecast...

This area is an ice climbing destination in southwestern Wisconsin. It consists of about a half-dozen climbs up to 70 feet high. The largest climb is in a private quarry called Quarry Monster; the other climbs are located along the railroad tracks heading north from the parking area and along Hwy X.

Getting There

The "parking area" is located along Cty Hwy X north of the town of Wyalusing by a large limestone butte across the road from the quarry.

Hey Kris. Leading is encouraged! Go for it. Some of the isolated pillars require a V-Thread to get off (or you can leave screws) though. I am contemplating permanent lowering anchors with the land owners permission of course. Feb 29, 2008

The Ice is thin, But it is in!! 12.4.10 Dec 4, 2010
Dennis sold half the Quarry to "Todd". He swears he's gonna tap a well and flow ice from the top. That would be pretty sick.

He was talking about doing that and making it a membership thing. If you meet him ask him how that's going. Apr 15, 2011
Does anyone know if anything in the area is worth while doing?
As I speak, we are in the Tomah, Wisconsin area. We are wanting to find something worthy to play on without having to travel too far...couple hours at most. We will be here for another week or so.

I have posted some condition photos for first week of Jan. 2014. Check the photos section for the Wyalusing ice main page. It's a OK start for now. Hopefully things will continue to grow. Jan 5, 2014

News update about Dennis and the quarry. Dennis does not own the any of the quarry anymore. It all belongs to Todd now. Please make sure to stop in and speak with Todd when entering the quarry now. His place is the new house over on the right when first entering. Dennis has had some health issues recently. He suffered a stroke some time early in 2013 according to my understanding but has made quite a bit of recovery since. Saw him briefly on Sat. 1-11-14 when he came out and said hello. Jan 13, 2014

I highly doubt it is in today, but another week of these temps and this weather, and stuff will probably be forming up. Governor Dodge wasn't in on the 20th, and up until today, it has been too warm since then to really do much.

Anyone ever climb rock around here? I remember doing some fun "adventure" climbs on these bluffs years ago. I seem to recall some of the rock was fairly solid? I remember once soloing a wide crack high above the river and nearly peeling off as I pulled onto a ledge near the top when a massive vulture took off right in my face. I guess I disturbed the poor buzzards nest.. Feb 8, 2018
