This massive peak to the north of Whitney and Russell, towers above Manzanar. It is the second highest peak in California.
There are no longer access restrictions related to bighorn sheep. These were lifted by 2011 at the recommendation of the scientists that had been studying them until then.
Getting There
Take Market Street, west from Independence. After 4.4 miles turn left on Foothill Rd. Follow a right fork. Follow signs to "Shepherd Pass Trailhead".
Hike to Shepherd Pass.
