Description
Current land owner, may or may not allow visitors and climbers. Please check accordingly.
Pilot Rock is the highest place in Todd County and is a popular place for locals, so expect a lot of trash and graffiti. Ranges in height from 40' to 120'. Irons writes in his guide book that the earliest people to utilize Pilot Rock were the Cherokee Indians and they consider(ed) it a special and sacred place. The name Pilot Rock comes from it being an obvious landmark and the rock helped settlers and travelers navigate through the area.
Check out 'A Climber's Guide to Pilot Rock' by Geoff Irons for more humorous and detailed history and additional route information. The book is available through the AAC library.
The MP sections are listed similar to what is detailed in Irons guidebook.
