Access Issue: Climbing Regulations/Seasonal Raptor Closures Details

The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.

Description

This formation lies just south of the main road, and is easily spotted from the road. There are routes on the main Pope’s Hat, and on some of the surrounding rocks.

Getting There

It is surrounded by smaller rocks, so a scramble is required to get to the base. The shortest approach is from the western end of the Live Oak Picnic Area loop.
