Description

The Bubble is a large boulder located in a gully north of Bear Creek. It is home to Hot Spit and Cold Sweat, both of which are on the east side. The crag offers great climbing on short and powerful routes in an isolated area of Dinosaur Mountain.

Getting There

Two hiking routes can lead you to the Bubble, both of which are approximately the same distance. The first hike begins at the Bear Canyon trailhead and ascends to the Mesa Trail. Take the Mesa Trail east (about _ mile heading upwards) to the Bear Canyon turnoff and then head west (another _ mile) to the rock Stonehenge, home of Thought Control, the Fiend, and others. From Stonehenge, go north up a gully for about 100 meters and it will be on the east side, just past Sneak Preview. The second hike begins at NCAR and ascends the Mallory Cave trail up to the climbers' trail (near Der Zerkle) to the Drugs/Power Bulge area. From this alcove, descend the gully heading south and the Bubble is about half way down (~100 yards) to the base of the canyon.(See also directions to Stonehenge and other Dinosaur Mtn. crags).

The easiest way to get to the Bubble is from the Bear Canyon trail. Pass left (west) of Stonehenge and go over a little saddle north of Stonehenge and the Bubble will be right in front of you. This is only 3 minutes from the trail if the best route is taken (do not leave the Bear Canyon Trail until it crosses the creek).

The back side of The Bubble is steep but pretty easy to solo up. There are some trees close to this face which make the ascent easier, if you consider stepping on branches fair game. Apr 15, 2004
