Description Suggest change

Climb the steep slab past some friable holds.  I took a couple falls in doing this when tiny sharp holds broke. Each time a hold would break however, a nearly identical hold was created a quarter inch below so that the difficulty didn't change.

If this were longer and had better quality rock it would be really good face climbing.  As it is it's still a good short practice slab with challenging moves. There's not a lot of climbing near York, so at times Blackbridge was a good after work bouldering area for me and other local climbers.  Hacks was the only toprope I ever did here; this didn't seem safe to boulder.

Graffiti at the bottom used to say "Hacks Cliff Dwellers." Supposedly Hack was the nickname of the Central York High track coach in the 70s. His team used to run on the old Blackbridge Road and apparently stopped here to deface the rock once instead of doing their cross country running.

Location Suggest change

A short brown slab near the top of the quarry,  which is WNW of the bridge abutment by the creek.

Protection Suggest change

No protection. Toprope from tree above the slab.
