Description
At first glance, this climb doesn't look like a 3 star route. Surprising to us, the climb doesn't need to be cleaned up at all. I thought we would be doing some bushwhacking, but it felt more like a big mountain climb and will provide everyone an experience that feels like a first ascent in the big mountains...it's super unique in this way, and I feel like giving it a 4 star for its fun factor. Climb this late summer, and enjoy some raspberries 3/4 of the way up...try not to step on the plant and damage it. I will be putting in a piton soon, because a safe climb is a better climb in my opinion, but until that happens, a fall on the upper face will most definitely end with severe injury. However, if you aren't on your game that day, you can escape easily to the left. A bolted climb is only 10 feet away.
Please don't tear out the bushes...they aren't a hassle and give the climb a natural feel.
Location
Just to the right of Para Fin, 5.7, bolted route, look for the climb that has bushes in the middle. Climb through those bushes, and I promise it will be fun to do so. Finish up the route on the ridge staying out of the gully to the right. Once you have climbed the ridge far enough to be directly to the right of the Para Fin anchor, traverse easily over to it, and use that to lower down.
Protection
It is runout...and dangerous 3/4 of the way up the climb. There is the possibility of a 20 foot fall landing on a shelf and an unhealthy tumble through the bushes. It is protected by trad gear only. Don't worry about bringing a cam larger than a #3. If you didn't bring trad gear and want to toprope it, be prepared for a big swing. The swing is unlikely to cause injury, but it is going to be a wild ride.
