Description Suggest change

The route starts at the base of Big Falls and can be broken down into three sections. First, climb moderate snow or 3rd class rock to the left of Big Falls. Second, from the top of Big Falls, easy snow brings you most of the way up Airplane Gully. Third, the last section is the most interesting. Climb the final 1200’ feet of moderate snow to the top of the gully. This is a popular ski descent from Lee Canyon. Snow to 50 degrees. Return the same way. It took me two tries to complete this route.

This is a long route. Expect variable snow conditions.

This route is/was as good as anything I've done in the Sierras. I'm not sure this route comes in every year.

Location Suggest change

From the Maryjane Falls parking area, follow the sometime used use trail to the base of big falls. Don crampons here. Have fun. See beta photos.

Protection Suggest change

Crampons, Snow tool. Maybe a second tool for the final bit.
