Description

Many consider this the best v3 at Mad Meadows. Start sitting on the arete, with sidepulls, work up to the huge Rail jug, and climb straight up the arete from there.
Feels a little contrived, somehow, to me, but everyone else thinks it's really awesome. So take that for what it is worth.

Location

Look for The Rail as you hike uphill from The Pocket boulder, on the way to The Undercling and The Hole.
It's right on the trail.

Protection

A pad.

Yeah, I think it's still "The Rail" even if you use holds to the side. It's never felt like a clear line to me. I have done it a handful of ways, and just think to myself that it's 'probably "The Rail" as long as it feels roughly v3, and I use the big rail hold at some point while I'm climbing'. The finish up the arete is the fun part anyway. Aug 29, 2014

I used some holds out left instead of the arete but that felt like a more natural line to me? Aug 21, 2014
