Warning Access Issue: SANDIA CREST CLOSURE ALERT - Beginning APRIL 30, 2026, 140 acres at the top of the Sandia Mountains is under a closure order. DetailsDrop down

Description Suggest change

See Sandia Rock by Mick Schein (2003, Sharp end Publishing) for a good description.

First pitch is a "Great". Second pitch is just "Okay" - has its share of looseness and lichen for a good stretch (~40 ft?) right off the belay.

Location Suggest change

Begins between Good Clean Fun on the left and a crack on the right that has an evergreen shrub roughly 40 feet up.

Protection Suggest change

Standard rack including doubles in the 0.3-0.75 inch range, in addition to the usual stoppers.

As of summer 2024, this route now has a bolted anchor at the top of P1 to allow a single pitch experience. If desired, continue up P2, but use caution given its blocky and choosy nature. Alternatively, with use of runners, one could continue up to the P1 anchors of Good Clean Fun.
