Description

The crux is the start. Ascend ~20ft. of vertical ice, then enjoy the shorter sections above. You can climb this is one pitch, but it's probably better to set a belay and do 2 pitches if you want to protect the scramble at the top. Walk off (we went left). The solitude is unparalleled.

Location

See the Beta Photo for the location. "Deep Thoughts" is the furthest Left route on the North side of the Valley. Left of "Deep Space".

Protection

Ice screws & slings for trees.

As the description states, the crux is at the start. While steep, I don't think this earns the climb a WI4 rating, I think it's WI3+ at best. Perhaps early season in thin conditions the climb will be WI4 because of the start. The majority of the climb is WI3. Rapping the route is difficult as there is no fixed protection and not much (trees or rocks) for natural anchors. The walk-off to climber's left is probably best.

This climb faces west, so it sees a fair amount of sun. Jan 24, 2014
