I've done all I can do at lakes. I'm moving on to rivers. I don't want to buy a whole new leash just for the quick release element.
Is there a carabineer device I can incorporate into my original lease rig? One that especially looks like a climbing pro device that I can keep on my gear sling? Ideal properties of this device:
Super easy quick release. If you've ever been in the washing machine suction of a river rapids you know the need for easy, fully 100% detachable action
Looks like climbing gear. I want to keep it on my gear loop so folks know I'm an Advanced Boarder but also also show the river folk I'm a serious climber.
Just get the NRS quick release sup leash. I’ve had mine for years and it’s worth it. The coil is nice when you are getting chundered through the gnar to not shock load your board. Otherwise go online and search for “quick release shackle” and improvise with some climbing gear. Seems like what you’re looking for is this piece in particular. Also make sure the shackle is attached with a metal ring and not webbing/cord for a reliable release.
I tried retrofitting with a marine quick-release snap shackle instead of a full new leash — way more reliable under load than any climbing carabiner. Most whitewater folks say true SUP quick-release belts are safest, but a stainless sailing shackle gives the fast dump + legit gear look.
