Hey everyone, I saw this area and thought it would be fun to rap down off a tow hitch. It’s a sink hole called Donte’s decent near Ashfork AZ. I’ve figured the logistics for rapping down and have plenty of experience to make it safe, I’m curious if anyone here has done it. Or if anyone knows the logistics of the sink hole itself. I’m extremely confident with any kind of rappelling, but my experience with caving in general is limited. Is there danger of toxic gasses or instability further down? Or are the “do not approach” signs meant ti keep folks from taking selfies on the rim and falling? Any info would be helpful thanks

The Ash Fork wiki page states that Dante's Descent is closed to the public.

The rim also looks dirty and loose, so rapping 275' in and jumaring out could easily knock rocks on your head.

There is an alternative sinkhole to visit nearby called Devil's Kitchen which looks a lot cleaner and less loose.  It's also 660' and has a cave.
