Does anyone have any experience with these Vertical Evolution Hangers?  $2.95 each.  Curious why they are a full dollar cheaper than The Lappas Sea Urchin Hangers.

(Noob question, why the matte vs glossy SS finish?)

I got these same ones from a different store under the "Vertical Evolution" brand that I used for a few routes I put up.  I have zero complaints with the hangers.  They are a good size, easy to clip, and seem to be as well made as any other ones you'll buy.

"Noob question, why the matte vs glossy SS finish?"

My understanding is that there are two main ways to increase the corrosion resistance of stainless steel during the finishing process. One is by pickling and/or passivation in acid. The other method is by electropolishing. Electropolishing is an additional step which increases the cost to manufacture.

The Vertical Evolution hanger appears to have been tumbled to remove burrs and soften edges, then pickled, passivated, or both, to remove iron contamination and provide a fresh layer of chromium oxide protection. That leaves a dull, matte finish.

The Lappas hanger appears to be electropolished, resulting in a shiny finish. The HowNot2 page reads: "The product undergoes a passivation process (marine version), for the purpose of the removal of free iron or other foreign material. In addition, it is subject to an extra process of polishing-finishing to maximize corrosion resistance."

Great info there ClimbBaja!  I had the same question myself about the finish on the hangers.

Here are some pics to show you the relative size of the hangers Dan.  They are slightly smaller than the gold standard Fixe hanger, but still very easy to clip with any size carabiner.  I've gotten a number of my friends on my routes I put up asking for feedback and no one has mentioned anything about the hangers being tough to clip with a variety of sport draws used.  We have a number of developers here in Vegas who use inexpensive, small hangers that are often difficult to clip (especially stick clipping), but these are not like that.

I have used the hangers. They are good.

They are even good roof hangers due to the notch in the "top".

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Fixed Hardware: Bolts & Anchors
