Runout customs ledge/scam lessons learned

I'm unable to call Runout as I'm overseas so I liek to ask if anyone knows these ledges? Someone is selling a new D4 delta 2P portaledge 2024-T3 Aluminum frame. It's one years old so likely just before the newest models. First photo is the one on sale and rest is from their site. Can runout upgrade mine to have some or all the upgrades? Looks like the frames with their square edges is different, there's daisy chains, 2 sides have straps with buckles and surprisingly older one has no fin Thanks |

Perhaps I'm reading this incorrectly or out of the loop lately on who's making what but let me take a crack at it. Barry at Durango Sewing Solutions has been at least the US manufacturer for D4 ledges in recent years, so Runout Customs is not who you should be comparing against in terms of "new" features. RC makes an entirely different model. The first photo you show appears to be a D4 ledge (i.e. a key characteristic is the rounded corners), but it doesn't look like a Delta to me as it appears to have 4 (rounded) "right angle" corners, more like a regular D4 variety--unless it's just the perspective the photo was taken that's throwing me off. A delta should be a "tall" trapezoid if you take a look at the photos on Barry's website. Hope that helps |

Don't know what Runout might offer, but this could be an option for you: |

I am fairly sure the first photo is either a Middendorf prototype, or a scam. You can clearly see in the photo scrap fabric on the floor of exactly the same color as the bed, with the legit embroidered logo on it. The joiners have fixed hangers, which no one uses anymore. Dorf used 2024 aluminum. If the ledge you’re supposed to buy is exactly the one pictured, I don’t really know if its a “standard” model but I am 100% sure whoever is in the photo MADE that ledge. I wouldn’t pay a single dollar unless you saw this ledge in person or bought it directly from a reputable company. |

The blue ledge in the first picture is just a screenshot from one of Middendorf's YouTube videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DynRhJaEVq8 |

Thank you all for watching out for me. I was overseas while corresponding to the seller so didn't have time to post here. It was a scam. The first photo I supplied was actually a video and he also sent other pics in the same room. I also notice a sewing machine and thought it was odd. Several emails back and forth I decided to reach out to Runout and provided the same photos. He says that's not his, the stitching was wrong and he said it looked more like John Middendorf's shop! I knew something was up when I asked multiple times to have a video call but he showed me those videos/photos instead. I didn't bother replying to the scammer again. ========================================================== Just after that I saw another for sale post: https://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/topic/107933-for-sale-d4-full-size-portaledge/ The seller gave me a sad song that she didn't post on MP because she too got scammed. In fact she wrote some rather harsh words when I asked for a video chat claiming that she was sick and tired of making video calls and people taking her photos etc to scam people. She actually sent some photos of it setup in a backyard. Just to see what she says I asked who made it even though one photo showed a fly with the big D4 logo. She said it was runout becuase the haul sack said runout. Once again I reached out Luke at Runout and enquired, also sent him the photos. Surprisingly enough he remembered making it and said it was a special order and the it's dimensions were slightly smaller than the regular double. Also sent a screenshot of the original owner making a FS post on MP. I looked for the original post, turns out the scammer's photos were exactly the photos in this post! So as alot of people are saying make sure you get that video call and check and double check what you are getting! What's interesting I asked both scammers where they are located and both were in Chicago. Maybe we're dealing with the same person ================================ I'm fortunate to have posters here looking out for each other and this sport having a outstanding manufacturers. Luke of Runout Customs was very patient in answering my questions. A good lesson and it's why I changed the title to include scam lessons learned |

This is an on going issue. I have seen it for the D4 and even 1 or 2 G7s so I made the linked thread above about it. I wonder how many people are trying to scam. It seems like an odd item to pick to scam people with. Hopefully now that HMG is making ledges and the multiledge exists, they are more readily available and people aren’t scouring forums for something that is out of production. |
