Devil’s head road conditions?

Any one know if the road is still open after the snow?

I’m pretty sure it’s still open, but being passable is another question. The USFS has not closed it before December due to snow at any point that I know of. The warm sunny weather this week may melt it back enough and some enthusiastic hunter may run their pickup through and break track.

Thanks for the info!

I was at the S (correction N) end of RRR where it deviates from Hwy 67 on Monday morning the 11th. The gate was open but the road was snowed in and impassible except by snowmobiles. Maybe a foot of snow, maybe more, but there would be more in drifts. There was substantially more snow than at Sedalia.

I'd appreciate any updates throughout the week.

Update: As of Friday morning the 15th, the N end of RRR is plowed one-lane wide for at least the first mile. Still a lot of snow with 100% coverage from shin- to knee-deep (or deeper?) and caps on boulders.

Has anyone been out more recently? Wondering how RRR is looking now—thinking about heading out there this weekend.

I’ve not been down there yet but am also hoping for this weekend. Rampart Range road appears to have been plowed up to (former) MM10’s overflow lot. Photos on the DCSAR page from last Friday evening show a lot of snow. I’m hoping this warm weather will melt a lot but be prepared for hiking on snow. I’m not sure I would try to get back to Jackson Creek road and the south side…  photo below is from last Friday

Update on conditions…. Road is fine. Mostly dirt all the way to former MM10. They did not plow the road going to the main fire tower lot so cars were parked at the overflow lot. The gate was still open though and there were tracks so some people were making it there.
Lower west side trails did have some snow but after today should be packed down enough to not need gators.
I’ve heard rumors that they might be closing the road next Friday (29th) rather than the 1st so get down there while you can!
