Bent CAM Stem - DMM Dragon

Hi all,

On a recent climbing trip I took a couple of small (only around 1m) falls and weighted for around 5 mins one of my DMM cams. Upon recovery of my cam from the route, I found the stem had been bent out of shape slightly (I assume by me sitting on it trying to figure out the sequence of moves).

I wondered if this is a major issue and cause for concern? Or if it’s just what happens and the cam is still good to go!

I have checked the wiring on the stem and it all looks un damaged. All the rest of the cam is undamaged and in perfect working order.

Thanks!

No safety issue at all.  Just a kink in the wire similar to what happens pretty commonly with stoppers.  To fix the kink, you can flip the cam the other way and weight it to bend the wire back.  To avoid any kinks like that, make sure the placement isn't being loaded at an angle to avoid the wire bending to accommodate the force.

This cam is unsafe to use, PM me and I’ll send my address for proper disposal

I agree. It’s totally fine. You can try and bend it back to neutral again. Extend your draw next time.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
