Hey yall,
The Central Appalachia Climbers Coalition is putting on our annual Spring Breaks event at Breaks Interstate Park this weekend. We'll be having a great time and showing some love to one of the gems of Appalachian rock climbing.
If you're not familiar with Breaks, I like to describe it as a New River Gorge with less people and incredible access. The park sits atop a ridge with many miles of high quality cliff accessible via a loop road that hits several overlooks that have historically been the main attraction. Only recently have people started going down to the cliff bands below and putting up routes.
The rock lends itself very well to moderate and hard climbing alike. Our main area of focus this weekend will be building a landing at one of the best walls at Breaks, Eastern Prospectors by Belle of the Ball, an uber classic .9+. It's neighbored by 3 other incredible routes 5.9-5.11a, making the wall a favorite of many who visit the park.
We'll meet at 9 on Saturday the 13th at the Pinnacle Rock parking area (37.28971° N, 82.30794° W). After trail work, we'll have a cookout hosted by the park. Sunday we'll climb.
Hope to see some new faces!
Cheers,
Andrew
