I'm going to be in Chamonix the first week of March. We're mainly there for a ski trip but I'd like to fit in a day or two of climbing. I've never been to Cham and was trying to figure out what I could do in one or two days. It's seems like rock climbing is limited but there's a good amount of ice climbing. Can rock climbing be done in March? I've never ice climbed but would be down to learn.

I mostly lead trad up to 5.7+ or sport up to 5.10s.

There's a number of valley level crags in Chamonix:

Really depends on the weather and snow conditions.  I was there last year at the end of March and the valley was pretty wet with rain and claggy weather.  But, also sunny some days and rock was kinda dry then and given the low snowpack last season...was maybe kinda doable.

Ice climbing...there's plenty of guide services to take you out locally:

You might pulse the weather/conditions right before your trip and see if its worth bringing rock gear or planning on a day or two of ice instruction.

That said, in a weeklong trip, there's plenty to ski...

What's typically in for ice in late March / early April? Probably just higher elevation lines at that point?

Unrelated to climbing, if you are going there for the first time it’d be worth hiring a ski guide for a day or two. Having someone show us around changed the whole place for us.
