This is an email that went out to the Special Recreation Permit holders (SRP, ie. guide services, pink jeep, bike tours, etc...)

Hello to all of you patient SRP holders,

So, to date there is still a lot of "Don't know", HOWEVER,  TENTATIVELY!!! it looks like IF we are shutdown, starting MONDAY, October 2, 2023, the Scenic Drive will remain open for the public and SRP holders may proceed as normal.  The entrance station will be open and they will be honoring and expecting Timed-Entry Reservations. Apparently Recreation.gov will stay up.  For the public, the entrance station will be "Cashless" for the duration of the shutdown.  Scenic Drive hours will be 8am-5pm!!

SUNDAY, October 1, 2023- Most likely if we are in shutdown mode as of 9pm PST/12am EST on October 1, 2023, the Scenic Drive and Visitor Center will remain CLOSED for that day.

Starting Monday, October 2, 2023, Park Ranger Staff will be limited and management will be on-site 7-days a week during the time of the shutdown.
If there is an emergency call 9-1-1-, or if you need immediate information you can come to the Visitor Center or Entrance Station and see what staff is available to assist you to the best of their ability. ORP Staff will NOT be allowed to monitor emails or answer phone calls!!
Sincerely,Kate Sorom

So still not 100% official information on what will happen if the shutdown occurs, but tentatively this seems like their plan.

A mod can sticky this temporarily, and we and others can post updates when we get them.

Whatever you do Oct 1, don't hike in/out on paved areas, last year a few climbers got ticked for that, IIRC.

I would advise you or anyone to stick to hiking in from highway without stepping foot on the loop road or parking lots, like Oak Creek, First Creek, etc... or hike over the angel notch from Calico Basin to access stuff in the first 3 pullouts.

Its absolutely stupid that paved areas specifically are off limits, but easy enough to avoid. Plan on wag bags even more so than usual.

IE. no running or biking the loop Oct 1 either, if the shutdown does indeed happen.

Gov shutdown has not occurred, thus for now its business as usual as far as Red Rock Canyon NCA is concerned.

Will have to see what happens 47 days from now.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
