Hey All,

looking for cheap/free/off grid camping around Devil's Lake. Other threads have mentioned Green Valley Campground - is this first come first serve? Can we just show up late friday night and expect there to be space? do we need to check in with anybody for a spot?

Green Valley is chill. First come first serve, $10/person/night (could also be $20, I can't quite remember), you put your money in an envelope. IIRC they are also willing to barter if you're into that kind of thing. No need to check in.

I have never had trouble getting a spot there, they don't really market themselves so I don't think I've ever really seen it crowded. They've got some long term rv tenants so be respectful and all that jazz. If you want more info they should have a fb page with a phone number; that is the extent of their online presence.

Free camping east of the Mississippi is really hard to come by unless you are stealth camping.

If you have just a tent, Green Valley will 99.9% of the time will have space for you

Excellent! same goes for car camping?

I believe he means tent vs rv/camper. Car camping with a tent will be fine.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
