Old school attache has returned! (sort of)
Save your $75 for the old attache folks, Petzl is bringing back the round basket attache in 2024, rejoice! Hopefully its action is as nice as the old ones... |
Hey Metolius, are you seeing this? Bring back the thumb loops! |
Well there goes my plan to hang on to my two old ones and sell them for $200… |

I’ll believe the hype it when I use it. One nice thing about the old Attaché with the full round stock profile is you can use the spine when belaying followers on a plaquette and make it an even smoother belay. Especially nice when using a GiGi or Ovo plate to belay. The round basket of the re-released Attaché looks sweet, but the spine is still an I-beam construction. |

Matt Z wrote: This is my concern as well. When you set up a gigi the ropes rest on the spine of the carabiner. There's still a place for fully round Attaches, but I'm definitely going to pick up some new-school ones. The new mini pear from Petzl looks good, too! Rep said it's one gram lighter than an SM'd. |

Yeah... Spine was where its at. Full round stock you get a lot of material to use in the normal basket AND spine. |
Just buy the Rock Exotica Pirate and you're good |

Please delete this post until after I've bothered to sell the ones I'm sitting on. TYIA. |

This seems like the best of both worlds. I like the I-beam attaches for their low weight. But they wear out quickly from rappelling/lowering. I'm curious if they'll match the same 57g weight as the current ones. It should work fine when belaying a follower in auto-block mode to just flip the biner so that you're using the bottom part of the biner to belay; no need to actually use the spine of the carabiner. |
They should have given it a new name. It is NOT an attache. |
I dont understand the attache hype. We used to use them to belay in a gym I worked on and they got stuck in the locked position frequently. |
Using them as the rope bearing carabiner with a device in guide mode, the carabiner is never stressed in the long axis, no weight on the gate. Just the spine is stressed. |

Petzl really nailed the first redesign, I bet this one will be even better. I'm positive it will crash the market for original attaches, and not be at all maligned by vintage attache enthusiasts. I mean, we all remember how the Z4 utterly destroyed demand for the C3... Right? Right??? And Thumbloop master cams, I mean, who uses those antiques anymore? |
