Devils Lake Toprope Clusterf*** PART 3

Rock climbing season in Wisconsin has begun. While the people who live here have been climbing since February, it’s time for those city slickers to come up north and show what they know. This group also had someone deck off a lead of Roccoco.

We had a short conversation about them possibly seeking some professional instruction

While the people who live here have been climbing since January

Fixed that for you... :p

Excellent, what a doozy. I'm assuming that yellow directional is as confidence inspiring as the other cam you got a pic of?

Hahahahahaha true. Year round climbing here at the Lake. And yep, nothing good there

What about the can in the flaring crack as a directional to hold that rope over the Boulder?

This thread is boring. Post more pictures

On Barn Dance I believe. The issue with this anchor is subtle but if you look closely you may notice a potentially fatal error.

Master point looks odd. The banana peel could def be life threatening via a slip on the top out though. Mario Kart style

It feels like where’s Waldo. I’m staring at it but it’s not registering. I’ll blame it on exhaustion and the long week. Care to share with the class?

Half the banana is uneaten. You could die of hunger and the cure is right in front of you.

Once Garrett gets 2-3x the experience, he’ll walk right by these pic scenarios and think “meh”….

While not elegant or text-booky, nothing in those pics make me think a top-roper is about to die.
Id roll my eyes and judge, but still take a ride on their rope if offered.   These aren’t quite up to the ridicule std we expect in this thread.

Garrett is SPI certified and has been climbing for a long time. I think I'd trust his opinion, and I'd think even a new climber could tell that these are unsafe.

Couldn't tell if you were joking or not in the original comment haha. Wanted to make sure people know he knows his stuff

This isn’t true. I don’t even rock climb. I’m actually a very serious water skier.
Rock climbing seems far too dangerous for my delicate sensibilities

+1 to Mark's comment. I think we're in a world now where anything other than a quad on 2 bolts is seen by some as "potentially fatal". The reality is that toprope anchors can be flawed and imperfect, and still not be a deadly situation.

Just saying...

Bold of you to assume I like the quad anchor. Or that we have bolts at DL

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
