Route Photo Upload limits/guidelines

Hi,

I'm wondering what photo size limits are (resolution and also megabytes). And if there are any suggested ratios to upload.

Some photos I've tried to post on routes come out awfully compressed and super grainy, but they are 8MB quality photos. I'm thinking MountainProject is poorly compressing them on upload.

I was thinking a solution could be for me to simply resize them as far as quality and resolution in Photoshop - Then when I upload them they might not suffer as much compression on MountainProjects upload. However, I don't see any guidelines and couldn't find any in searching for size or MB limits.

Thanks,

Cole

I was wondering this as well. I just uploaded a few photos and they got way compressed/shrunk down. Some photos let you click to show a larger resolution (like the image below). None of the photos that I just added let you do this though. Is this a bug or a "feature"?

We had to entirely rework photo uploads in the recent site update and discovered a bug that impacts full size view. Going forward, photos are saved at the original quality that they were uploaded. What we see on the website are images optimized for web delivery but they should also be viewable at their original quality. Related, we've updated size limits to allow for better images to be uploaded to the site and updated the Betacreator to save larger images than it previously did. We hope to continue improving the quality of images on MP.

Hey Zander do you know when that change goes into effect? I just uploaded one that was like 14MB and have the same issue where there's no option to view a full scale image. So I can upload bigger pics but I can't actually seem to view them in that better resolution.

Good question, Tal. I don't know but I'll see if I can get an estimate.

Likely next week.

Photo re-sizing on uploads appears resolved.

The "draw topo data" function is utilizing VERY thick lines rather then either thin ones or having an option to adjust the line thickness.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
