Hey everyone! I have an almost brand new pair of Futuras that had some rubber peel off the edge area of one shoe. This isn’t an overly used area of the shoe, and with the number of times I’ve climbed in them, I feel like there was something structurally wrong with the shoe when I got it. It started peeling almost immediately after I started wearing them.
Anyway, with the rest of the shoe having basically no wear yet, I’m wondering if I could put some sort of patch or sealant over this area until the shoes are ready for a full resole? Will that prevent them from being able to be resoled later on? Or do I have to get them resoled now?
Any thoughts or links to repair products are appreciated!
Your second pic tells me that you've worn the sole rubber down thin enough that it's time for a resole. OTOH it also suggests that the rand rubber didn't go underneath the sole as it should; that's an issue that LaS should notice.
Combinations of both you and La Sportiva. It looks like they messed up putting the sole and it delaminated and then you ripped that piece off and stepped on it.
You have to climb differently in noedge shoes. More on the front toe and less on the side of the shoe. The sides are thin rubber and will rip like that. So basically climb in them like they are crampons.
GunkieMike Looks like the rand is fine, I think you are looking at glue left over from the delamination
This has been my experience with no-edge shoes. (I am a fan) Another issue that I noticed is that one needs to be careful to not catch the side of the rand and peel it off, such as when toe camming or jamming. That said, I started using the Futura and the Genius for steep routes almost exclusively.

Similar wear has happened on my futura’s every time I have a fresh sole put on. As the toe wears it’s likely to happen in different places as well, I think because of the tapered rubber where the sole meets the rand. I use a small amount of Shoe Goo to fix any separation and it works quite well. Had my last pair resoled 4 times before the leather wore out and Rock & Resole never gave me any grief.
