Nomic without hammer

Is it ok to use the Nomic with nothing at the back? Don't see how I'll need the hammer, so want to remove it, but then it leaves this gap at the rear bolt. Does this matter? Should I try to find some kind of shim to put in there?

Add a washer/spacer. Or they have picks without the machining for hammers or adzes. Send me a pm. I think I have a bunch of washers or I can at least get you dimensions to order from a hardware store. Don't pay Petzl premium.

The spacer has become obsolete in my opinion. I used nomics and old ergos without spacers for multiple seasons. Just bolt those picks on and get after it. There is also a company that makes an aluminum hammer that you can put on that adds basically no weight but protects the head of your tool.

Thanks for the replies. According to https://www.thealpinestart.com/2018/10/07/field-tested-petzl-nomic-ergonomic/ Petzl says it doesn't need a spacer.

"As a note, Petzl have done some extra testing and concluded that that annoying little spacer that was a bitch to insert properly and kept falling out and getting lost when replacing picks is not necessary. All the new picks come without this spacer. “Our testing shows that any Quark, Nomic, Ergo or Ergonomic made after 2011 does not need the spacer. If the tool is pre-2011 then we recommend using the spacer.” – this is straight from Petzl HQ."

But since I found the gap annoying (purely for OCD reasons) I went to the hardware store anyway. Found that 2x1.6mm fit the gap perfectly in case anyone else has the same issue.

Do you know which company makes the aluminum hammer?  Thanks!
