Chalk bags for DWS?

Do deep water soloists need chalk? If so, I imagine they need LOTS of chalk bags (one drop and the bag is soaked). I have an idea to make waterproof/non-absorbent bags for DWS. The inner part of the bag could be swapped out in a couple seconds (think Velcro) with a fresh load of chalk. Thoughts? What are DWS climbers doing now? Bringing 10 chalk bags?

That’s a cool idea. I think the part that actually holds the chalk would probably have to be a waterproof material, because otherwise water will seep in from the other parts of the chalk bag. If you can figure that out in a way that’s user friendly and not super expensive, I think it would be pretty sweet.

There's no way to keep water away from the chalk. So the best we can do is a thin, fast-drying inner bag. Dump the chalk sludge out, give it a quick rinse, and in a few hours it's ready to go again. The structural outer bag would be waterproof; imagine something like a rubberized fabric.

I've heard it's common to cut the liner out of a normal chalk bag, leaving a material that either does not retain moisture, or dries out very quickly at least, and then just refilling chalk each attempt

My thinking is that when the interior part of the structural outer bag gets wet, it will seep into the chalk unless the removable interior part (the part that actually holds the chalk) is waterproof. The way I’m envisioning it, having the removable part that actually touches the chalk being waterproof is more important than the outer bag being waterproof.

A few hours is a pretty long time to wait. I think if you’re going to make the product, it should be something that’s ready to go again quickly.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
