I’m not saying to not file your hooks (I filed mine years ago) I’m just saying that wildly extravagant and different hooks are pretty much not needed.

I'm gonna read between the lines and say that the implied advice here is not to focus too much on micro details of gear at the expense of what actually matters on big routes like knowledge, skills, ability, experience, having the right gear in general, attitude, stubbornness, good partners, preparedness, etc., etc.

yeah, that’s pretty accurate.

Hahaha!! OK, but every time you mention it, you owe me a beer!!  See you at the El Cap Bridge this fall season?

Sounds good! Me and a couple partners will be there from around Oct 10-20. Way too short I know, but being at the family and 9-5 life stage, smash-and-grab missions are about all I have time for right now. We're fired up about doing our first El Cap route! Either Zodiac or Lurking Fear depending on weather and crowd conditions. I'm guessing with all the logistics we will be cutting it close on time and won't be spending too much time at the bridge, but the first round's on me if we cross paths!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
