RIP Mayor Max
|
|
I don't know how many of you have met Mayor Max, a golden retriever who (in a political process not really that close to a free and fair election) became mayor of Idyllwild. His owner, Phyllis, brought him and her other goldens out to meet and greet in the afternoon in front of the ice cream shop on North Circle Drive. You could usually see them all there on early afternoons, especially on the weekends, in the back of her pickup. Max died today after a brief illness. Max was very friendly and tolerant, and if he ever acted hostile to any annoying person, I never heard about it. He was like a lot of working dogs -- he accepted the task he was assigned and he did it uncomplainingly. (He got treats, too.) Phyllis tirelessly promoted Max's message of universal and nonpartisan peace and love, through both her facebook page and the calendars that she initially gave out for free. (She told us the expense was getting to be excessive, so we started paying for ours after a while.) Although his message had to be put into words by Phyllis -- well, if you've ever met a golden retriever, you know that their love is sincere. Max, you will be missed. You were a good dog. |

Does the new mayor have to consume the flesh of the deceased in a blood ritual? |

oh man, what a bummer. i loved that dog! it was always great to get down from a route, drop by town for some beer/coffee/icecream and scratch him behind the ears for a bit. |

Greg Daviswrote: +1 See: Lassie RIP, Max. All dogs are great dogs. Owners, on the other hand… Will there be an election for the successor? (Funny, I don’t remember the one that put Max in his position.) |

I vote Mitzi. I just hope Idyllwild is ready for a female mayor… |

Greg Daviswrote: Apparently, I’ve missed much these past three-ish decades. A dog as mayor? Of course, I’ve never paid much attention to whom was mayor of that town? But definitely thought that was the type of town to elect a dog as the mayor. Sad to hear about Max’s passing though. Always a sad thing. |
